RE: Tow Vehicle vs tow dolly

Tow dollies are easy to use and store, we just slip ours under the end of the MH. Have used one for several years. We have just switched to a trailer due to towing requirements of our new tow vehicle. Much prefer dollies over towing 4 down, as four down is much more convienent but creates more wear and tear on the tow vehicles ( dollies are cheap). JMHO.

RE: Help-Electrical Question

Since you have checked them with a meter and the unit will operate directly though the 50 amp cord to the genny my though is one of three things you could do, remember just because you checked with the meter does not mean those cords are safe they could be failing under load, possible courses of action, (1) replace all pigtails and any extension cord used and plug them in (2) open all breakers(in the trailer) then plug in again(I don't like this one but it might isolate to a component in the trailer) (3) find an electrician who will test your cords with a load tester then test your trailer circuits. Electricity kills be careful. you could be creating a live ground situation, if you not sure get an electrician.

RE: Help-Electrical Question

Sounds like maybe one the pigtails or the service cord into the MH is shorted, if you have an ohm meter, without any power connected to anything check continuity between the leads of each of the terminals of each of the pigtails and the cords independentaly of each other.

RE: Discount Gas Club

I love how people speak with no real info on a subject, you are probably one of those that told me I could not legally get wireless internet for my computer for $15 dollars a month (that I have received from ATT for 2 years now).

RE: Discount Gas Club

I did not see any fuzzy math, very clear. Not really sure how they can do this and make any money so it may very well be a scam but if you read the advertisement it states quote
"How Does it Work?
1. Buy a Discount Gas Club Card. You will get an electronic Discount Gas Club Card via email with gas purchase instructions.
2. Print your gas purchase certificate(s) for the value of the card option purchased.
3. Buy gas at the local station of your choice or any place that sells gas in the United States.
4. Mail the completed gas redemption(s) and original gas receipt(s) to the club.
5. We will process your gas redemption(s) within 72 hours of their being received, then send a check for the FULL amount of gas redeemed, according to the gas purchase and redemption instructions"
buy card then buy gas then submit spent receipt and receive check for amount spent very clear
May very well be a scam though.

RE: Boondocking in CA

Those who suggest that boondocking can happen in a city or someplace that is big enough to have a Wal-Mart have probably never lived in the Boondocks. The boondocks existed before RV's were around.
Boondocking would seemingly have to occur in the boondocks.
Merriman-Webster defines boondocks as:
1 : rough country filled with dense brush 2 : a rural area : sticks
http://aolsvc.merriam-webster.aol.com/dictionary/boondocks. I guess some people could have different definitions of what constitutes being "out in the sticks" though.
I myself don't even consider myself dry camping when in a Wal-Mart parking lot. I am just parking overnight in a vehicle that happens to have some conveniences for living and thankful that I am not having to sleep in a parked car or worse because of economic reasons.
If you notice by your own quote Merriam-Webster does not recognize the word boondocking as a word so quoting them is really of no basis of definition because they don't recognize the word (or part of a word) as even a part of the English language. One listing for the term boondocking that comes from the website boondocking.org says "What is Boondocking? Boondocking is free camping, generally out in the boondocks. "
Like I said, it is in the I of the beholding.
Here is website. I do not support this website, just using it as a source for the term. Looked interesting though.

Thanks for the post, it was entertaining. I think boondocking is in the eye of the beholder, no matter where you are.

RE: New law in California - text messaging while driving

There was a tentative plan to restrict text messaging in the next year or two.
Then about two weeks ago a train operator failed to see a red signal while he was texting.
He as one of the 30+ people killed in the train crash.
A side effect of this was that plans moved up. Killing people will get politicians to move a little faster.
He broke a rule. Had he survived he might have lost his job over the infraction.
Come now maybe we can back date the law so we can fine his estate!
Just another law that is in reality unenforceable and will be used in abuse to serve the purpose of who ever can twist the intent.
Driving and texting is incredibly stupid, but so is using a circular saw to cut items sitting in your lap(as far as I know there is no law against it). The stupid will be punished, try not to be around.

RE: How slow is unsafe?

Another issue that goes along with this is if you are in very heavy traffic there is no way I would pull off due to the hazard when pulling back on the highway. Highway 65 in Arkansas continually has drivers traveling in excess of the speed limit in very heavy traffic conditions I would never pull off to allow others to pass because I might never be able to access the highway safely again. Thank goodness their is a few pass lanes (not enough) in the 2 lane sections of this highway.

RE: How slow is unsafe?

All of us need to keep in mind that the "speed limit" is the maximum legal speed. There is no requirement to drive AT that speed. Some roads (very few) also post a minimum speed.
Any vehicle which is accumulating traffic behind them should pull over at the first SAFE opportunity to allow that traffic to pass. I believe that all drivers should drive at a speed which is safe for them but should also allow traffic to pass when possible to do it safely.
Ditto !
Wow! I can hardly believe it. People are complaining about someone following the posted speed limits and maintaining their vehicle in a safe manner. Maybe the issue is not the slower traffic it is you who is in such a hurry, if you need to speed to get there then maybe you need to prepare and allow a little more time to drive. Most(including myself) if they half to speed to get to a destination are distracted and not really paying the required attention to the task at hand, driving. Maybe we need to be reminded that it is a speed limit not a goal.

RE: Generator Will Not Start

Circuit boards for Onan units run about $350(bought one last summer) from Onan, can purchase replacement after market unit or Onan used(but not from Onan) for about $100. Description you gave though could be several things including stator(several hundred dollars too) so be sure before you start buying parts as Onan will not take returns(been there). If you can get them to check a board for you go for it, that would at least eliminate one item. The reason they normally shut down is there is a problem with the AC voltage being sensed at the output, so there could be any one of a number of different causes.

RE: More Arizona speed camera's

You can tell who the speeders are by looking at the posts, people do slow down, the speed limit is the max you can travel, not the speed you have to travel
Really? I don't speed, ever and am dead set against this type of activities due to all the reasons that have been stated. While I agree almost no one follows speed laws I distinctly believe in the constitution which stated I can face my accuser. I have yet to hear of a an unmaned camera answering a question to its proper operation in a court.

RE: Emergency Roadside Assistance Nightmare

Have had GS ERS for three years. They have responded 3 times to my calls and I have never been disapointed, It is very suspect though to have a brand new member only having two post come on and slam a service with those two post. I'm not disputing the bad service or condoning it, but maybe it needs to be put in context.

RE: USA made generator

Don't know if I would claim that American workers are really all that much better than overseas. I just had to junk diesel Onan generator(<2000 hrs total time) and then was handed a bill of $5000(it originally was over $8k) all due to the incompentance of Onan repair techs that they admitted to. My MH was going to be held in lue of payment. I threatened a law suit and the bill was suddenly reduced to $2300. I due have my MH(though I not them had to put it back together) back now and have replaced the generator with a new Winco generator at less than 1/8th the original cost of repairs.

RE: USA made generator

Winco is a US generator manufacturing company has been around since the 1920's the manufacture generators as well as assemble them from parts from other companies and then sell under their own name. I presently have a unit install in my MH from that has a honda engine matched with Italian generator end that is a tri fuel unit. It is much quieter than the onan diesel that it replaced though it creates more noise than the enclosed RV generators on the market today it is not near as noisy as the contractor generators.
